Biography / CV of Nick Moran

Nick Moran was inspired with the sculptural potential of steel after taking a temporary job at an industrial steel works in Australia, in 1994. On his return to the UK in 1996 he studied blacksmithing at Hereford College of Art and became apprenticed to a blacksmith. By 2006, Nick had received awards from The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths for outstanding craftsmanship and started to run a successful forge in London. Working on his own sculpture he has developed an eclectic style, continually questioning his working practice, utilizing new ideas and travel influences whilst finding inspiration in antiquity, sculptural icons and shrines. He is quickly becoming a prolific sculptor and has work in private collections around the world. He has exhibited at Leicester University International Sculpture Show and in 2010 was commissioned by Duplo International to create a sculpture which was shown in The Tate Modern.
During the 2012 London Olympics U.S swimmer Michael Phelps was awarded a sculpture presented by FINA created by Nick `Bryndis` to celebrate him becoming the greatest Olympic athlete of all time.

Artist Statement of Nick Moran

My work is in response to emotional events and the physical world I encounter. By pysically committing myself to the piece, there eventually emerges an emotional clarity between myself and the work. Gradually a narrative becomes apparent from the intensively worked steel and finely crafted shapes that dreate the formal elements.

Changes occur from the initial conception of the piece as dialog between myself and the metal that ultimately informs the direction of the work.
